In-home assessment when something cannot wait for an appointment.
For select concerns, a mobile visit is faster and far less distressing than a car ride to a clinic. Every urgent care visit begins with a consultation and a full physical examination.
Please read this first. H.E.A.R.T. is a scheduled mobile practice and is not a 24 hour emergency hospital. We cannot guarantee immediate attendance, and we do not carry surgical, imaging or intensive care facilities. If your pet is collapsed, bleeding heavily, struggling to breathe, seizing, or has been hit by a vehicle, please go straight to your nearest emergency veterinary hospital.
| Item | Fee | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Urgent care home visit | $325 + GST | Consultation and a full physical examination in your home. |
| Included travel area | Included in the fee | Ladysmith through to Courtenay. |
| Beyond the included area | $50 to $100 | A travel surcharge applies depending on distance, including the Comox Valley beyond Courtenay and Campbell River. You will be told the exact figure when you book. |
| Recommended additional care | Estimate first | Anything recommended after the examination is discussed and estimated before it proceeds. |
What a mobile urgent visit suits
- A pet who is painful, frightened or unsafe to move
- A sudden decline in a patient already under palliative care
- Wounds, abscesses, lameness and skin or ear problems
- Appetite loss, vomiting or diarrhea that needs looking at today
- Assessment when you are unsure whether a clinic trip is warranted
What it does not suit
- Anything needing surgery, oxygen, imaging or overnight monitoring
- Trauma, poisoning, bloat, whelping difficulty or urinary blockage
- Any situation where minutes matter
In these cases the right call is your nearest emergency hospital. Please do not wait for us.
How this connects to the rest of our care
If an assessment shows that your pet's needs are really about comfort and quality of life, we can move straight into that conversation rather than sending you elsewhere to have it again.
Before you call. It helps enormously if you can tell us what changed and when, what your pet has eaten and drunk today, any medications they are on, and the name of your regular veterinary clinic.
Recent bloodwork or imaging reports can be emailed to records@heartvet.ca while you wait for us.
You can call before you are ready to book.
Many families phone simply to ask what happens, what it costs, or whether it is too soon. That call is welcome, and it is free.
